This pose is a favorite for photographing outdoor high school senior portraits. The lighting was just right on the Scituate Lighthouse Jetty the evening this image was photographed. The North River and its salt marshes create an excellent back drop for high school senior portraits. I often use my Nikkor 80-400mm VR zoom lens for photographs such as this. The telephoto focal length for the this shot was 122mm, giving me nice depth between the subject and the background. I also used a flash for this shot, to help brighten the subjects face due to the backlighting from the sun.

This image was photographed using a 80-400mm Nikkor VR zoom lens at 98MM. The camera is tripod mounted, and a cable release is used to avoid camera shake. Most all of my high school senior portraits are shot in this manor.

How could I not include a portrait of my pal Buddy. Buddy is a 20 pound Maine Coon Cat. Buddy spent a good part of his life homeless, roaming the streets of Norwell just trying to survive. In February of 2008, after a year of putting out food for him, and trying to get him to come to me when I would see him in the yard, one cold morning at 4 am he let me sit with him and pat him as he ate... We became good friends. Buddy went to the vet with a whole host of problems... abscessed teeth, (ten of which needed extraction) liver and heart damage, parasites, just to name a few... and he wasn't fixed then either. The vets at the time estimated him to be between 8 - 10 years old.

Anyway... After a lot of love and care, and over a year later, Buddy has his health back, and he calls our house his home. He is a good old guy with a lot of heart.

My best pal passed away from cancer on October 7, 2010. We shared such wonderful times with one another. We were always together, and he will be truly missed.
